We bought our first Emily Davinici crib in 2005. We loved it so much we bought a second one in 2008 for our next child. We also later bought the twin bed that matches. These have all held up well and we used them from infant size through preschool.
Crib was pretty simple to put together. Only took myself about 1 1/2 hrs to put together and directions were simple to follow. It is extremely sturdy and looks wonderful. My son is loving it just as much. He's 13 mths and has been sleeping in a play pen or our bed since he was born. He's now moving into his big brother room and needed something more sturdy and more comfortable. I loved the fact that it came with the side railing for when we convert it to a toddler bed. I would recommend this crib hands down!!!
Two hundred bucks seems very reasonable for this much solid wood, all of it well cut and drilled. The Emily went together without any trouble, though give yourself 1-2 hours. With respect to the guy who claims he did it in 25 minutes, that's possible if you've got help and have put them together before. By yourself it's trickier to keep components properly placed while getting them together. Give yourself time and do it right. You'll be pleased. It's very solid and looks great.
I purchased this crib in 2008 and it is currently on my second child. We love it. It was a little hard to find a mattress that actually fit this crib. There does not seem to be a standard size for cribs and mattresses. Because of that, I'd suggest going with the DaVinci mattress just because you're more likely to get a good fit. (I think I even read someone's review where the DaVinci mattress didn't fit and DaVinci sent her a whole new crib because they figured out it was a manufacturing problem with the crib.) Full disclosure though, this is not the mattress we wound up getting as I didn't know DaVinci made one when we purchased the crib, I wish I had.
The crib was easy to put together and has held up well. We love the way it looks. The only thing I will say is that my son thought he was part beaver and gnawed off some of the paint. I don't think the paint came off abnormally easy, but the teeth marks are something that might not be as noticeable with a crib that is stained instead of painted.
The plus is that its white so it should be fairly easy to touch up when the time comes to convert it to an adult bed.
This crib is very sturdy and a great deal. I ended up purchasing this crib because of the high marks it received on Consumer Reports. It has not disappointed. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the stain scratches very easily. When we got the crib, we were missing one of the screws for assembly. We contacted DaVinci and they shipped us a new one immediately. We had a very pleasant experience with their customer service team. We have the crib, changing table, and dresser from this set and they all seem to be high quality for the money. If I ever needed to buy another crib I would not hesitate to purchase this model again.
We bought this crib for our first child and recently got it out to put up for our second. After getting it up we both commented on how this crib was a steal for the money.
Cons: The finish does scratch fairly easily and our son chewed on it and ruined the finish...but it is what it is, we weren't buying a lifelong heirloom to pass down.
Pros: Sturdy, easy to assemble, manufacturer's customer service - when we got it out to reassemble it we had discovered one of the lug nuts had fallen out and we couldn't find it anywhere, so I emailed the company and I had the replacement part at my door within five days - for something we bought nearly five years ago - I find this ASTOUNDING in regards to customer service
Overall - if you're debating between this crib and another - I feel this crib is a HUGE value!
We bought this for our daughter's nursery a year ago. My husband had it assembled fairly quickly, and it looks beautiful! The color is great, too. Our daughter is now 11 months old and pulls herself up with the bar in front but I've had no problems with her getting her arms stuck or anything. It is a great crib and great quality. I will definitely buy another one like this when we have another baby.
